Time for a new contract

Well, it looks like this contract will be winding down at the end of May so I'm officially in the hunt for the next gig. If you know anyone who needs a java developer, please drop me a line. If it's not local to Denver, it'd need to allow for a fair bit of remote work. I have a daughter who is almost a year and a half old and I don't relish the thought of being gone all week for months on end. On the flip side, I know of a contract in Atlanta doing some hibernate work if anybody's interested.

Linux 2.6.11 and ALSA

After a series of upgrades, I found myself without sound on my laptop. I've always found ALSA to be a bit quirky, but this was getting annoying. After fiddling with various kernel options, I remembered I could actually google for the answer. I saw this forum post. In 20 seconds I had sound again. I don't know why those settings should matter, but apparently they do. So now I'm back to grooving to my mp3s while I code. Life is happy again. Just another reason I need to upgrade to a powerbook.

DNS Problems

Well, it would appear that DNS freaked out on me last week. I got the issues (mostly) resolved this weekend, but it looks like I'm going to have to do something more permanent. I've been looking at hosting services the last few weeks trying to find one that fits all my needs and I think I've finally found one: http://www.eapps.com/. I'd looked at some that had almost everything I wanted but were missing one or two features I consider important (ssh/scp access, e.g.). This whole bundle covers all the bases. I'm going to take a deeper look today, but in all likelihood, I'll sign up today and this site will be up on the new host by the end of the week. Maybe then I won't disappear for days again. :(
